Meatal stenosis (say: “mee-TAL sten-OH-sis”) is when the hole at the end of the penis (where pee comes out) gets too small. It mostly happens to boys who were circumcised as babies.

What Causes It?

• Most often: Skin gets irritated and scars after circumcision

• Sometimes: From birth or infections

How to Tell if Someone Has It

✔ Pee sprays everywhere (not a straight stream)
✔ Hurts or burns when peeing
✔ Pee comes out very slowly
✔ The hole looks smaller than normal

How Doctors Fix It

1. For mild cases:

   • Stretching: Gently widening the hole at home

   • Special cream to help with scarring

2. For worse cases:

   • Quick procedure (called meatotomy):

     • Doctor numbs the area

     • Makes a tiny cut to widen the hole

     • Takes less than 10 minutes

     • Heals in about a week

What to Expect After Treatment

• Might sting a little when peeing for 1-2 days

• Keep it clean with warm water

• No swimming for a few days

When to Call the Doctor

Call right away if:
⚠️ It hurts really bad to pee
⚠️ Can’t pee at all
⚠️ Has a fever (might be infected)
