Meatal stenosis (say: “mee-TAL sten-OH-sis”) is when the hole at the end of the penis (where pee comes out) gets too small. It mostly happens to boys who were circumcised as babies.
Most often: Skin gets irritated and scars after circumcision
Sometimes: From birth or infections
✔ Pee sprays everywhere (not a straight stream)
✔ Hurts or burns when peeing
✔ Pee comes out very slowly
✔ The hole looks smaller than normal
For mild cases:
Stretching: Gently widening the hole at home
Special cream to help with scarring
For worse cases:
Quick procedure (called meatotomy):
Doctor numbs the area
Makes a tiny cut to widen the hole
Takes less than 10 minutes
Heals in about a week
Might sting a little when peeing for 1-2 days
Keep it clean with warm water
No swimming for a few days
Call right away if:
⚠️ It hurts really bad to pee
⚠️ Can’t pee at all
⚠️ Has a fever (might be infected)
